# Rails Logs: The rvm not a function Bug When Setting Up a Ruby Environment

### **Getting this error**

> When you get the `rvm not a function ` error message, even though `rvm path` is clearly set in your .zshrc, and this weird problem shows up

```ruby
error:Warning! PATH is not properly set up, '/home/me/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.x.x-p247/bin' is not available, usually this is caused by shell initialization files
```

### **Here's the fix**

```Shell
rvm reset
rvm version
```

Once running `rvm version` no longer throws `rvm not a function`, the problem is solved

It's caused by `rvm ` not being bound to, or defaulted to, the correct version
